Smart, timely and efficient logistics is the backbone of the Indian industries today. Times have
gone when logistics was seen as a synonym to road, railways or port transportation. Today, logistics
has become an integrated arrangement taking together the best of all the available modes of
transportation to keep the costs down and ensure ontime delivery of the ordered material. Today,
Logistics has become a "Packaged Solution" rather than an "Independent Task" as seen in
past.
Logistics and infrastructure costs represents a major chunk of the finished product price in India
and in steel and coal it can go up as high as 30-40%. To compete with the global players and to lead
the global markets, India has to work on its logistics arrangements and streamline the various
elements of its supply chain.
KATM is organizing this conference on Bulk Logistics to highlight the inter-dependency of various
agencies like ports, railways, highways, etc which have to bind together with a strong policy
advocacy driven by the Government in India, in order to benefit and uplift the Indian industries to
the global level.
