KATM’s flagship conference fetches over 300 delegates

Earlier in the week, Power and Steel industry witnessed a mega event organized by KATM Technologies Pvt. Ltd., which saw participation from over 300 delegates and guests representing who’s who of the mentioned industrial sectors.
KATM’s flagship event was held on 12 September 2017 at Le Meridien Hotel in New Delhi, titled ‘Conference on Raw Materials for Steel & Power’. The event was widely supported by Ministry of Steel, Government of India with Union Minister for Steel, Hon’ble Shri Ch. Birender Singh, inaugurating the event as a Chief Guest and Hon’ble Union Minister of State, Shri Vishnu Deo Sai was the Guest of Honour.
Besides other officials from Ministry of Steel, Steel Secretary, Dr. Aruna Sharma also graced the occasion as one of the key panellist and speaker in the inaugural session, pointing out key recent policy developments in Steel and Power sectors, which will further stimulate the demand.
Other key panellists in the first session were Shri Naveen Jindal (Chairman, Jindal Steel and Power Ltd.), Shri Partha Sengupta (President, JSW Steel Ltd.) and Padamshri awardee Shri Ashok Jhunjhunwala. This session was followed by a small facilitation ceremony wherein the major contributors to KATM’s auction and trade platforms were acknowledged with tokens of appreciation.
Second session was crisp, involving presentations from two partner states Jharkhand and Telangana, regarding the state policies on minerals and related industries. Jharkhand were represented by Smt. Anjali Kumari, Director Geology, Government of Jharkhand, while Telangana was represented by Shri B.R.V. Susheel Kumar, Director of Mines and Geology, Government of Telangana.
Post lunch sessions continued the knowledge flow, starting with session on coal which was chaired by dynamic official, Shri Vivek Bharadwaj, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Coal. Other participants in the panel were Shri Hardarshan Valia (President, Coal Science Inc.), Dr. R.K. Suri (Former Director, MoEF), Shri Arun Maheshwari (EVP Commercial, JSW Steel), Shri Brijesh Gupta (CEO, Renewable Energy, Atha Group), and Shri Prashant Goyal (Director, Fuel Procurement, OPG Power Generation Ltd.).
This session was followed by a session on iron ore, chaired by Shri Deepak Bhatnagar (Secretary General, Pellet Manufacturers’ Association of India), featuring key panellists like Shri Kalyan Maity (Director Raw Materials and Logistics, SAIL), Shri Subba Rao (CMD, KIOCL) and Shri Manish Mishra (Chief Regulatory Affairs, Tata Steel).
Final session on logistics and supply chain saw huge interest from the audience. The session was chaired by Shri Prabhas Dansana (EDTT (S), Indian Railways), and saw panellist and presenters from Tata Steel, NMDC Ltd., Essar Steel and Drewry.
Panel discussions held at the daylong event provided key insights for all the stakeholders to take back. It was established that the Indian steel and power sectors are still in developing stages when looked from the raw materials’ perspective. Both sectors have to boost domestic production of raw materials for long term strategic development and sustenance.
