Rolling process of SAIL- Bhilai’s Bar, Rod Mill inaugurated

Yet another major milestone in Bhilai Steel Plant’s Modex Programme was crossed with the inauguration of the rolling process of SAIL- Bhilai’s Bar and Rod Mill, by Saraswati Prasad, IAS, Additional Secretary & Financial Advisor (AS & FA) in Ministry of Steel, Govt of India in presence of Director (Commercial) SAIL, CEO BSP, Executive Directors, General Managers and senior officers of the Plant and Projects Mills Zone, supporting agencies of the Plant and representatives of equipment suppliers and contractors engaged for various packages of the BRM Modex Project.

The 0.9 MTPA modern Bar & Rod Mill in Bhilai would enable SAIL-Bhilai to roll out new products including Bright bar, Cold heading, Spring Steel, Free Cutting Steel in wire rod sections and also TMT Bars in straight length. The entire range of product grades from the new Mill would enable SAIL to meet the emerging needs of different grades of structural steel for the nation’s ambitious infrastructure development programme.

Among the equipment suppliers and contractors engaged for various packages of the BRM Modex Project are Fives Stein India Pvt. Ltd., Fives Stein, Bilabo, Spain and Beekay Engg, Bhilai for Furnace Package; Danieli & C, Danieli India Ltd and Beekay Engg for Mill package.

Besides Projects PCC TK, Utilities, Projects Enabling Zone, Testing & Power, Steel Zone and Cranes, various agencies of the Plant including Power Supply Dept., Electrical Repair Shop, Stores, Energy Mgt Dept, Refractory Engg Dept, PLEM, Fire Services, central hydraulics and other associated agencies played a crucial role in the stepwise execution of the project. M Ravi, CEO and R S Chaturvedi, ED (Projects) congratulated members of the entire BRM Team and all agencies associated with the Projects for crossing this major milestone.

The Projects Mills Zone team for BRM that worked hard for the execution and run up to the lighting of furnace, first billet discharge from furnace and inauguration of rolling process of the new Mill was led by PR Saha, DGM I/c Projects-Mills, Satish Kumar, DGM I/c BRM and Mukesh Gupta, DGM-Maint-BRM.
