ESSAR Steel’s iron ore development project in Odisha hits pollution hurdle

The Odisha State Pollution Control Board has urged Essar Steel to get the permission to expand its iron ore block in the state.

The company has nailed the Ghoraburhani-Sagasahi block in the first ever iron ore auctions which were held in Odisha, beating the competitors like Tata Steel, Jindal Steel & Power and Bhushan Steel, who offered higher bid prices.The Block has 100 million tonnes of iron ore in bulks and by that enabling the company to boost its prime operations at Hazira, Gujarat.

The company has come up with the plan of a production capacity of 7.16 million tonne per year run of the mine product from the iron ore block.On the other hand, it is also planning to establish a crushing and screening plant and a beneficiation plant with a capacity of 6.7 million tonnes per annum.
