Indian Manganese Ore Imports Down by 3.5% M-o-M in Feb’17

India imported around 0.16 MnT of Manganese Ore in Feb’17 against 0.17 MnT in Jan’17. There has been a marginal decrease of around 3.5% M-o-M in Indian Manganese Ore imports in Feb’17.
Australia surpassed South Africa as the largest exporter to India in Feb’17, exporting a total quantity of 0.08 MnT. Whereas, South Africa exported 0.05 MnT. Imports from Australia witnessed a mammoth increase of 285% M-o-M, whereas, imports from South Africa decreased substantially by 63%.
Moreover, Egypt has also overtaken Gabon as the third largest exporter of Manganese Ore to India in Feb’17 at 0.02 MnT, which remained null in Jan’17.
India has imported 1.7 MnT Manganese ore in 2016 and 0.33 MnT in Jan-Feb’17.
Indian Manganese alloys producers were unwilling to procure manganese ore in large quantities as demand from China was weak amid high probability of prices to come down further.
Hira Power & Steel was the largest procurer of imported Manganese Ore with total import quantity of around 1,31,603 MT in Feb,17.
