U.S ruling on Chinese steel sheet imports groundless China

06 March 2017

China has discarded a recent United States ruling on Chinese steel products terming it as ‘groundless’.

Head of the Ministry of Commerce (MOC)’s trade remedy and investigation bureau Wang Hejun said the U.S. ruling is against the facts and has failed to take into consideration the evidence and documents provided by Chinese manufacturers, reports Xinhua.

China expressed its apprehension after the U.S. Department of Commerce declared that subsidized Chinese steel sheet and strip products are sold in the country at less than fair value.

Wang said China has urged the United States to make an objective and fair ruling to avoid adversely impacting economic and trade relations between the two countries.

Chinese exporters suffered a total of 20 trade remedy probes initiated by the United States in 2016, an 81.1percent increase year on year, Xinhua quoted the MOC’s statement.

The MOC said the 11 anti-dumping and nine anti-subsidy investigations involving 3.7 billion U.S. dollars, went up by 131 percent from 2015.
