Peru’s cement market expands 12% in October

Cement demand in Peru increased 3.3 per cent MoM and 12.1 per cent YoY to 0.925Mt in October 2017, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. In September 2017 consumption stood at 0.895Mt.
Cement production in Peru increased 4.4 per cent MoM from 0.884Mt in September 2017 and 6.3 per cent YoY to 0.922Mt in October 2017. Domestic clinker output increased 54 per cent to 0.885Mt from 0.575Mt in September 2017. When compared with the year-ago period, clinker output rose 19.8 per cent.
Domestic output was supplemented by 52,500t of cement and 43,700Mt of clinker imports in October. In October 2016 no imports were supplied to the domestic market.
Peru’s cement producers exported 37,700t of cement and 54,000t of clinker in October 2017, representing a 10 per cent YoY for cement exports but a 18 per cent fall in clinker exports.
January-October 2017
Between January-October 2017, Peru’s cement market contracted by 5.1 per cent to 8.33Mt from 8.776Mt in January-October 2016.
In the 10M17, cement production reached 8.191Mt, representing a 2.1 per cent decreased when compared with 10M16.
Cement exports fell 10.2 per cent from 332,400t in 10M16 to 289,500t one year later while clinker exports more than doubled from 179,600t in 10M16 to 390,400t in 10M17.
Cement imports saw a 15.3 per cent rise to 472,000t in January-October 2017 to 409,500t in the equivalent period of the previous year.
