‘Stop disruption of iron-ore transport’: Manohar Parrikar

6 November 2017

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday issued a warning to owners of iron ore-transporting trucks that their vehicles could be deregistered if they disrupted the transport of the mineral.

Mr. Parrikar said, “Owners who take the law in their own hands, your trucks will be deregistered by the State Department of Mines and Geology.”

The Chief Minister’s warning comes following growing differences over iron-ore transportation rates between truck owners and mining companies. The tussle has resulted in disruption of transportation in the mining belt.

Mr. Parrikar said that there are around 6,000 mining trucks registered in the State and they transport 20 million tonnes of iron-ore from the mines to river-side loading points. “Mining transport has been permitted only from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. From 7.30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.” he said.
