Weekly coal output fell in the US

According to the weekly figures released by the US Energy Information Agency (EIA), on 2nd November 2017, country’s coal output totalled to an estimated 14.5 million short tons (mmst) for the week ending October 28, 2017.
Looking at the production break-up, east of the Mississippi River produced an estimated 5.5 mmst (down 1.78% week over week) and west of the Mississippi River production totalled at an estimated 9 mmst (down 3.22% week over week).
The weekly production estimate is 3.1% lower than last week’s estimate and 7.1% lower than the production estimate in the comparable week in 2016. US year-to-date (as of October 28, 2017) coal production totalled an estimated totalled 650 mmst, 9.9% higher than the comparable year-to-date coal production in 2016.
US, world’s second largest coal producer, exported approximately 51 MMst in the first seven months of 2017, which was 62% higher than in the same period of 2016. EIA expects growth in coal exports to slow, with exports for all of 2017 forecast at 75 MMst, 15 MMst (24%) higher than the 2016 level.
