5 February 2018
China’s coal production safety conditions continued to improve in 2017, with fewer accidents and deaths.
China saw 219 coal mine accidents last year, causing 375 deaths, dropping by 12 percent and 28.7 percent year on year, respectively, according to the country’s top coal mine safety watchdog.
No severe coal mine accidents were reported last year, while major accidents also dropped.
Coal mines in east China’s Jiangsu Province stood out in coal mine production safety performance with no deaths reported.
The government will continue to crack down on practices endangering coal mine production safety and improve infrastructure and technology investment in this regard.
