US Portland and blended cement shipments up 4% in November

otal shipments of Portland and blended cement in the USA and Puerto Rico rose 4.2 per cent YoY to 8.2Mt in November 2017, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).

The leading producing states were Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Alabama (in descending order). Around 39 per cent of these shipments were sold in Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Georgia (the leading consuming states in descending order).

Masonry cement shipments slipped to 196,000t in November 2017 when compared with the previous year period. The leading masonry cement markets were Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina and Georgia, which accounted for 57 per cent of shipments during the month.

Clinker production edged up 2.9 per cent YoY in November 2017. The leading clinker-producing states were, in descending order, Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Alabama.

Portland and blended cement shipments for the January-November reached 89.3Mt, up 2.3 per cent YoY.

Masonry cement shipments in the first 11 months were only slightly higher than 11M16 at 2.25Mt.

Clinker production for the year through to November remained stable at 70.2Mt.
