Combined coal stocks held by China’s six key coal-fired power generators in southern and eastern China totalled 13.21 million mt on June 14, up 6.4% from 12.42 million mt on June 7, figures released Thursday by port operator Qinhuangdao Port showed.

The six key power generators are: Zhejiang Power, Shanghai Power, Guodian, Datang, Huaneng and Guangdong Power which is better known as Yudean.

Based on the current coal consumption rate, the stocks are able to cover 18.10 days of consumption at the six power plants, down by 0.19 day from 18.29 days on June 7, figures showed.

Average coal consumption at the six power generators stood at 731,000 mt/day, up 7.7% from 679,000 mt/day on June 7, figures from the port operator showed.

Rising temperature in southern and eastern China has pushed up coal consumption rates at the power plants, resulting in a fall in the number of days coal stocks can cover at the power plants, the port operator said.
