New Bangladesh budget offers big projects for cement industry

AMA Muhith, Bangladesh Finance Minister, has presented the government budget for 2018-19 in Parliament announcing a long list of mega projects for the construction of hospitals, school, colleges and other infrastructures that would create huge demand for cement in country.
The finance minister said: “The country is targeting 7.8 per cent GDP growth in the new fiscal year against target of 7.4 per cent for fiscal 2017-18.”
Mr Muhith also announced provision of loans to the public for the construction of houses. The main construction projects that will require huge cement demand include:
- Padma multi-purpose bridge
- Padma rail bridge
- Ruppur nuclear power station
- Rampal coal-based power station
- Chattogram-Dohajari to Ramu-Coxes Bazar and Ramu-Gundum railway construction
- Dhaka Mass rapid transit development
- Payra sea port (first phase)
- Sonadia deep-sea port
- Matarbari ultra super critical coal-fired power plant
- Maheshkhali floating LNG terminal.
