Iran’s 6-month crude steel output up 25% yr/yr: WSA

Production of crude steel in Iran stood at 12.516 million tons during the first six months of 2018, indicating 25.8 percent rise from 9.947 million tons in the same period of time in 2017, according to World Steel Association (WSA).

It is while the world’s steel production during January-June, 2018 rose just 4.6 percent.

The WSA also put Iran’s crude steel output at 2.08 million tons in June of this year, with a 16.5-percent rise from 1.785 million tons in June of 2017.

Iran produced 21.884 million tons of crude steel and 19.776 million tons of steel products in the past Iranian calendar year (ended on March 20), showing 19 percent and 9 percent rise, respectively, year on year, according to the data released by Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO).

As Iranian Deputy Industry, Mining and Trade Minister Jafar Sarqini announced in mid-June, several crude steel production projects have been specified in the country over the past five years that have 40 percent progress now.

The official said that Iran’s crude steel output will reach 40 million tons per year once the mentioned projects are complete, Shata news agency reported.
