U.S. steel production grew by 5.1 percent in August

Steel output in the United States rose by 5.1 percent year-over-year to 7.5 million tons in August.
The World Steel Association reported global steel production in the world’s 64 steel-producing countries rose by 2.6 percent to 151.7 million tons as compared to August 2017. China accounted for more than half the world’s steel output in August, making 80.3 million tons, or 2.7 percent more than the same month a year earlier.
In August, steel output rose by 0.9 percent to 8.8 million tons in Japan, by 3.7 percent to 8.8 million tons in India, by 6.6 percent to 1.2 million tons in Spain, and by 6 percent to 1.2 million tons in Italy, according to the Brussels, Belgium-based trade association.
Production remained steady at 6.1 million tons in South Korea, unchanged from the previous month.
Steel output fell by 16.8 percent to 900,000 tons in France, by 5.7 percent to 3 million tons in Turkey, and by 3.7 percent to 1.8 million tons in Ukraine.
